Locating Lemmings

FYI

I am a minister in South Dakota @ Faith Reformed Church - www.experiencefaith.org

I grew up in the "Holy Land."  AKA Holland MI. lol :)~

I Graduated from GVSU and Dallas Theological Seminary.

My Strengths are ideation, strategic, relator, positivity, and activator.

My spiritual gifts are faith, teaching, exhortation, leadership, and intercession.

I have been married for 15 years and have 3 kids.

But that doesn't even give you a clue who I am.  I am and will always be different from anyone that you will ever meet.  I am named after the evangelist Leighton Ford and have always known God will use me for great things.  It has also been clear that I have very little to do with most of them.  It's all Him!

If you choose to read my blog you may disagree with me whole heartedly and even want to argue with me.  Great!  Because, if you agree with everything I say, then I don't need to write anymore.

I think that one of the greatest hopes of the Reformation, though it was called a threat, was that when people have Scripture in their hands that they will be able to decide and think for themselves.  While we see this to be true we have a people that are just as Bible illiterate as ever.  And if the only way to get people to truly engage Scripture is to challenge what they have always done, then sit down and hold on because at times this will be a very bumpy ride.

Locating Lemmings:

If Jesus were to teach today I think he may talk about people as Lemmings rather than sheep.  There are great similarities between sheep and Lemmings that I'm sure you can make so, I won't limit the comparison to what I see alone.

The point is that the church has far too many who's answer to:

  • "why do you do it that way?" is "we've always done it that way"
  • "why did you decide to do that?" is "it's in the by-laws"
  • "who is the church to serve?" is "the members, or those who visit regularly"
  • "who can we fulfill the great commission?" is "introduce people to my pastor"
  • "why do you go to church?" is something that focuses on themselves.

As Reggie McNeal says we may be living in Acts 2 all over again.  So, how are we going to respond?  Like the Pharisees and Sadducees who where concerned with power and what people thought of them.  Or are we going to join the church in the third world that has always had to live out the gospel and be willing to die for our Faith and the cause of Christ.

I want to wake up as many Lemmings as I can and help them to see that we are living in a time of great harvest for those who do not know the one who gave His life so that all may be restored to right relationship with the one who created them.

So, are you going to be a Lemming or a Disciple?
